How do I use an actor from one game in another game?

Basic Idea: You may come across an actor used someone else's game, or used in one of your own games, that you want to reuse in another game. This reuse isn't limited to the appearance, but also to the behaviors, properties and any associated files for the actor. This functionality is referred to as "exporting an actor."

Details: When an actor is exported, an actor project is created. Actors that have been exported and saved by you (and other users) will be available in the actor search list. Actor projects are shared by default, but they can be unshared through your projects page. The steps for exporting an actor are as follows:

Image
  1. Open (or rip) the game that contains the actor that you want to reuse.
  2. Select the actor.
  3. Click on the Export button, which is located next to the actor preview
  4. The name, description and tags will be copied from the original actor and are pre-populated in the save dialog. You can edit these as you like, and then click on the Accept and Save button to save this project.
  5. You can now access this actor in two ways:
    1. Through your My Projects page. Clicking on this actor will add it to a new game project.
    2. Through the actor search list. The last category is the "My Actors" category - this just contains your actor projects. You can also find your actor projects in any of the categories that it is tagged for.

Keep in mind that any behaviors that your actor has that references other actors may not be working. For example, an opponent in the game that the actor came from could be a crocodile, but in your new game it may be a butterfly. You will need to update these behaviors if other actors that are referenced in the behaviors have changed. It is also a good idea to double check any custom code - actors may affect game-level properties that you may not have in the new game.

If you no longer want to share an actor, you can unshare it or delete it; however, any actors used in shared games will still be rippable.
