EditMashups
To create a mashup, click on the "Create Stuff" menu in Popfly and select the "Mashup" link. On the left side of Popfly Creator there is a Blocks area that contains a list of all available “building blocks” that you can use to create a mashup. You can search for a particular block by typing part of its name in the search box, or you can browse through the different block categories.
Mashups are built by adding blocks from the list of blocks to the mashup design surface (that big area in the middle where you can design mashups).
- Choose one block to add to the design surface by dragging it on to the design surface. It will appear as a red block in the design area.
- Zoom in on the block by either double clicking on it or by clicking the wrench icon next to the block.
- Select an operation, which is like a question that you want to ask to that web site or service.
- Any inputs that are marked with an asterisk (*) are required. Supply any necessary information, and then zoom out by clicking the wrench.
- To see the results of the operation you selected, click the "Preview" link at the top of the design area.
- To return to the design area, click the "Customize" link at the bottom of the preview area.
If you want to create a true "mashup" you should add another block! Be creative when choosing a second block for your mashup, but keep in mind that some blocks will mashup better than others. (And some aren't compatible at all.) For many mashups, "display" blocks like Virtual Earth, Carousel, Slideshow, PhotoStack, Page Turner, or Video Player blocks are good second blocks.
- Decide on a second block that you think would be able to use information provided by the first.
- Add the second block to the mashup design surface.
- To connect the blocks, click once on the first block and then click once of the second "display" block.
- Zoom in on the block you just added, and choose an operation for it.
- Press the preview button to see the results of your mashup!
Pressing the "Clear" button will remove all blocks from your Mashup Design area, so you can start over with a new page.
